Psoriatic Arthritis Must Be Treated At The Earliest

Before proceeding in finding a suitable definition regarding what psoriatic arthritis is it needs to be mentioned that as many as approximately two percent of all Americans are affected by this condition. In fact, it has also been found that a tenth of all psoriasis patients also develop psoriatic arthritis and the condition is destructive and a chronic arthritis problem that must be treated at the earliest. If you fail to treat the condition you will risk destroying your joints.

Autoimmune Procedure

Psoriatic arthritis is also believed to be an autoimmune procedure in which the body launches a response (autoimmune) against itself which in turn leads to considerable destruction and inflammation. As this is quite a serious condition it requires that people need to be informed about the possible symptoms of such form of arthritis.

When psoriatic arthritis develops, the human body becomes impaired, especially its joints, and more particularly the bigger joints that are found in arms as well as feet; however, small joints in your hand are also liable to be adversely affected. Once the disease begins to affect the finger joints a big swelling is noticed there and this in turn is a sure sign that the problem is actually psoriatic arthritis which can even affect the fingernails and turns them into discolored as well as thickened and pitted fingernails.

Psoriatic arthritis symptoms are also known to relapse and remit and so, it is common to find that the symptoms will appear and disappear and also flare up every once in a while. The symptoms can vary from mild to moderate to severe to chronic and there is also considerable amount of pain and discomfort. In rarer cases, the symptoms can also affect a person’s spine.

Another major concern in regard to understanding what psoriatic arthritis is, is know the possible causes. Unfortunately, most causes are as yet unknown though research findings seem to suggest that the problem occurs because of instable genes and even because the patient has been exposed to certain bugs.

Either sex can develop psoriatic arthritis, or in addition, there is no gender disposition one way or another. The diagnosis of this condition requires identification of the most common characteristics of psoriatic arthritis; swollen joints and pain will suggest that you have developed this condition. Once diagnosed, psoriatic arthritis treatment should then be undertaken; though because of the propensity of symptoms to appear and disappear, treatment is only possible when the symptoms appear.

The bottom line is that psoriatic arthritis is a destructive and chronic disorder of the joints whose symptoms are known to come and go and treatment is only recommended when the symptoms justify further action also only when the symptoms are present; the treatment can be discontinued when the symptoms disappear.
